This week we are going to dive into my morning routine, my secret coffee that keeps me buzzing for hours and why you need to be practicing meditation.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
HRV has began to gain plenty of popularity in the last couple years due to its ease of use and effectiveness with diagnosing overtraining. To put simply without getting too nerdy, HRV is the measure of your parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system. You are then given a score based off the variability between the two nervous systems letting you know if you are ready to train that day.
To measure your HRV you need a bluetooth heart rate strap and any app that can measure HRV. My favorites are SweetWaterHealth, BioForceHRV, and EliteHRV; to access any of these go to your app store (EliteHRV is the only free one).

Morning Meditation- Headspace (paid subscription)
I began meditating about two months ago when I heard about it on The Tim Ferris Show. When asked what Tim would change about his 22 year old self, he replied that he would have began meditating. This struck home with me, because I am also 22 years old. I had read studies showing meditation had improved cognitive function, slowed down the aging process and even improved your relationships with others. I did some searching and came across an app called Headspace. Headspace is a guided meditation app that teaches you how to meditate.
Since downloading Headspace I have not missed a day and have done 57 days straight. My goal is to do a year straight. Meditation has improved my ability to handle stress and my focus. In addition, my ego has taken a step back and I find myself not interrupting people mid sentence as much as I used to.
