This past summer I lived in Thailand for six weeks. It was my first time traveling out of the country and really the first time I was ever alone. For some reason I decided to go by myself, but I am happy I did because this trip changed my life.
People always ask me, "what made you go to Thailand?"
I respond the same way every time, " my brother Justin forced me to." He had previously lived there for about four months and when he came home he told me I had to go. He set it all up for me, he bought me my ticket and explained everything I needed to know.
I can't thank my brother enough for what he did for me because there was no way I was going to force myself to go. I needed someone to give me that extra push and that is exactly what he did. I arrived in Thailand and stayed for 6 weeks, I will not bore you with the details. If you are interested in my time over there then check out my post above.
So what is the secret to success?
The secret to success is traveling to see the world and finding yourself .
Everyone is insecure, we are all naked and afraid of this crazy world that is life. We all want and try to fit in a group. We want to be accepted and taken in. We love being comfortable and having a routine.
I dare you to step outside that comfort zone, I dare you to become uncomfortable, challenge yourself, and become comfortable with who you really are. I understand that is not easy, on a daily basis you are pressured to live someone else's life. Everyone is afraid of not being accepted, afraid that their friends might not like the real them. Steve Jobs once said, "Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life." Take the chance and live the life that YOU want to live.
This doesn't just relate to friendships and your social life. It relates to everything. People are afraid to quit their job because they are not confident they could get another one. They settle and let someone convince them that they are just average. We all have the potential to be something great, we can succeed at anything we do. You just have to be willing to put the work in. There is no point to be realistic, why think negatively? Why do you care what happens if you fail. Failure is going to lead to success, it is going to tell you what you need to improve. We are all human beings, no one is any different than you are. Every celebrity and billionaire started out just like you. Their is no reason to think that you can't be as successful if not more successful than them.
The reason I believe traveling is the secret to success is because I learned all of this in just one trip by myself. I urge everyone to go on an adventure and get lost. Go by yourself and find out who you really are. Yes, at times I was depressed and I wanted to go home. I was lonely naked and afraid, but you know what. I got over it an moved on because that is what we humans do. We adapt to the situation and grow from it. Traveling will let you see a world you didn't know existed, it is going to change you in ways that you did not think were possible. I thank my brother every single day for sending me to Thailand. At first I was afraid, but hey we all have to take that leap sometime.
Stop holding back, life is just a game. When you are lying on your death bed you will regret the things you didn't do and laugh about the things you did do.
