I woke up this morning with no motivation and thought to myself, "it would be much easier to go back to bed. It would be much easier to stop reading, stop writing and start enjoying my senior year in college." My mind and my comfortable bed slowly start to win, " you deserve a break, you deserve a week off from everything, just go have some fun." I close my eyes, I begin to breathe deeply, inhaling through my nose deeply into my stomach exhaling out my mouth. As I fall back asleep, a voice creeps into my head reminding me that this is not the path to my happiness. The voice grows louder " if you stay in this bed,you are just like everyone else, if you stay in this bed, you are proving everyone right."  My eyes explode open with fear. I instantly jump out of bed, walk into the bathroom and stare at myself in the mirror. I stand there wondering what I should do next. Then the voice comes back, " stop being lazy and get your ass to work." I grab my jump rope, my headphones, and head outside. The cold air welcomes me with a rush of adrenaline as the air hits my naked skin. The cold air makes me feel alive. I find my favorite song, take a deep breath, smile, and begin to jump rope.

Happiness is something we all deserve, yet, it doesn't seem that people realize that. In today's world the majority of us have shelter, food, technology and people who love us. In the past, this would have been more then enough, we would appreciate every second of life, and be happier because of it. However, this is not enough anymore. Today's world is all about the things you don't have. You don't have a six pack, you don't have a new car, you don't have the newest Iphone. Instead of appreciating the food on our plate and the air we breathe, we take it for granted. We never stop to think, " what if I lost it all", until we actually lose it all. I am sure you have heard it a million times; a person finds out they have a disease, then they start living life to the fullest. Why do we have to wait for a life threatening disease to tell us to live?

You don't have to wait, you can start today. Stop worrying about what makes everyone else happy and find out what makes YOU happy. Stop lying to yourself and actually be true to yourself. F**k the rest of the world and do what makes you happy. Who cares if people judge you, that is a blessing,those are the type of people you don't want in your life. Remember, that our bodies have mirror neurons in our brain. We are designed to mimic our environment so that we can fit in with our tribe. Luckily, we aren't in tribes anymore and you won't be burned at the stake for your beliefs. Trust me, there are others out there just like you, don't be afraid to show who you really are. Surround yourself with people who accept you. Those are your true friends, they will bring out the best of you. Stop hanging out with people who bring you down or make you feel bad about yourself. When you are able to accept yourself, true happiness occurs. You no longer need materialistic items or status to make you feel like you have self worth. Happiness should not be like a yo-yo constantly going up and down. It should come from within, so when something bad happens, you can step back, take a deep breath and realize everything will be okay.  I'll admit, I struggled with this for a long time, my whole life I have always tried to fit in. I was always jealous of everyone else, wishing that I could have their life. However, that is the old me. Since beginning meditation, looking at myself in the mirror, and being true to myself. I have been much happier. For example, I can't dance to save my life, I have no rhythm at all. In the past, I would stand in the corner like a jabroni, but now, I could care less. I get out on the dance floor and make a fool of myself. This is what makes me happy, that is all that matters. I am not worried about what others are saying, they have no effect on my happiness. Life is a game and when you are old lying on your deathbed you are going to wish you danced more, laughed more, and loved more.

Steve Jobs is much smarter than me, but I'll do my best.... Live your life to the fullest, be grateful for the air you breathe, the food you eat, the steps you take and the love you have shared. Above all, never forget, you deserve to be happy.
